Each Chapter is a fun loving innovative group whose ages range from teens to seniors and who maintain their commitment to service by supporting the District Homes through a series of fun filled fund raising events such as movie nights, British Fairs, spa days, race days and other creative events. Many friends and family members join us for these events. Many of the Chapters also participate in philanthropic activities in their local community.
A Chapter is formed with at least seven members. The name of each Chapter is that of a person, place or event having significance in British or British Commonwealth history or culture. The Chapters have monthly meetings eight or more times a year. Chapters operate through their elected Chapter Officers and fundraising events are scheduled according to the Chapter’s needs and interests.
The DBE helps to support four Retirement communities known as District Homes, with regular contributions made possible by fundraising events. These fundraising events are varied and include fashion shows, auctions, international festivals and bazaars held by Chapters and/or State Societies. Chapters also donate to local charities of their choice. Since its inception the DBE has raised over $11 million dollars.
Many members have personal contact with their District Home and its residents and help with entertainment and other activities. Most Chapters and State Societies also participate in other philanthropic endeavors in their own communities.
Each member, Chapter and State is encouraged to participate in many fun events to raise funds for our Charities and to celebrate other events with a British and Commonwealth history.
We participated in commemorating the Battle of New Orleans, walked in the Whisper walk for Ovarian cancer, wondered at the Poppies at the Tower of London, celebrated Christmas at our District Homes, held baby showers to commemorate the birth of Prince George and raised funds in many varied ways from Downton Abbey Teas to a British Fair.
Every year each State and the National organization hold Annual Council meetings and District meetings where members from all over the country can meet, do business, have fun and make friends.
